Steve Levy

Biography

Steve Levy is the Chief Client Officer at Ipsos, where he heads the Client Organization Group, a team of Ipsos senior executives who are responsible for delivering strategic value to leading Canadian organizations. Steve has been recognized as a leader who creates meaningful opportunities to foster connections and strengthen relationships for marketers.

Levy began his career in the United Kingdom in sales and brand management. He came to Canada in the 1980s and got into the research business with Thompson Lightstone and ISL International Surveys Ltd, which became the NPD Group Canada,  where he led the Canadian business through its sale to Ipsos in 2001.

Professional accomplishments

As President of the NPD Group Canada between 1995 and 2001, Levy led a team of more than 50 Canadian researchers, and assumed an additional layer of leadership during the Ipsos acquisition. His achievements at Ipsos include:

  • Overseeing the Marketing, Loyalty/CX and Qualitative groups, leading a team of nearly 100 researchers. Under Steve’s leadership, those three groups experienced a period of robust growth while strengthening the reputation of Ipsos as Canada’s pre-eminent marketing information organizations.
  • Leading the development, sales and execution of several thought leadership initiatives, including: Most Influential Brand (MIB), Cause Marketing, Brand Heart and the Digital Marketing Pulse, among others.
  • Supporting the development and global promotion of a strong Ipsos organization and initiating global R&D and international thought leadership.

Levy is a frequent public speaker at both conferences and client events and has a passion for teaching presentation skills/public speaking, having conducted over 200 Effective Presentation Skills training workshops in 18 countries around the world.

Additional details
Levy is the originator of the annual MIB study, where he interviews many of Canada’s top CMOs to understand the drivers behind their brands’ influence in any given year. His genuine interest in the stories of the brands and the people he interviews has made this study a Canadian and global success.

Every January, Levy hosts an Ipsos Client Appreciation Event to bring marketers and other clients together to network and celebrate their achievements.  

A long-time industry advocate, Levy has served in leadership positions with the Marketing Research & Intelligence Association in Canada, the Canadian Marketing Association (as Board and Executive Committee Member from 2007-2015) and CASRO (as Board Chair from 2003-2006).

For the past five years, Levy has been very involved with the Earth Rangers, a children’s organization committed to instilling environmental knowledge, positivity and the confidence for every child in Canada to take an active role in environmental conservation. He is a member of the organization’s Board of Directors and has been involved in numerous initiatives.

Levy has been a member and supporter of the CMA since the early 2000s. For almost two decades, he has volunteered on many committees, advisory groups and councils. He was Board and Executive Committee Member from 2007 to 2015 and currently sits on the CMA’s Board-led Member Engagement Committee.
